Section A

Read the following passage carefully and answer any three from questions 1-4, 2x3-6

South India is known for its music and for its arts and rich literature. Madras or Chennai can be called the cultural capital and the soul of Mother India. The city is built low in pleasant contrast to the ghoulish tall structures of Mumbai and Kolkata. It has vast open spaces and ample greenery. The majestic spacious Mount Road looks like a river, wide and deep. A stroll on the Marina beach in the evening with the sea glistening in your face is refreshing. The breeze soothes the body, it refreshes the mind, sharpens the tongue and brightens the intellect

One can never feel dull in Chennai. The intellectual and cultural life of the city is something of the marvel. Every street corner of Chennai has a literary forum, a debating society and music, dance and dramatic club. The intelligent arguments, the sparkling wit and dashing irony enliven both the political and the literary mectings. There is a young men's association which attracts brilliant speakers and cqually brilliant listeners to its meetings. It is a trcat to watch the speakers

use their oratorical weapons, Chennai speakers are by and large sweet and urbane, though the cantankerous, fire-cating variety is quite often witnessed in political campaigning. The urbanc speakers weave the arguments slowly like the unfolding of a leisurely Carnatic raga

5) Who is the speaker and to whom does he spcak?

Ans: 'Poet' is the speaker and he speaks to 'God'.

6) Why does he pray to God as such?

Ans: Poet prays to God as he wishes to listen the voice of nearest and dear ones, the down-trodden and of one's own soul.

7) What is the central idea that the speaker wants to convey?

Ans: The central idea that speaker wants to convey is that of love, care and devotion to humanity and to God.

Answer any two of the following questions in not more than 100 words. 5x2=10

8) Write a composition on 'Impact of Cinema in our Life.

Ans: Impacts of cinema on our life : Cinema is a universal teacher. It educates people in different branches of learning. Our film producers have made very purposeful films to collect public opinion against some of the social evils as dowry system, the labour exploitation. It can teach us national history, geography, botany, chemistry, etc. Documentary films lead us to a street in New York to a park of Tokyo.

9) Write an Essay on "The India of My Dreams'.

Ans: India of My Dream : In the India of My Dream every man will have a high moral sense, a deep love for the nation. Our country is backward in the field of science and industries . I want India to be a leading country in new technology. Our industries could grow fast. We should produce everything we need. The India of my dream will go nuclear for peaceful purposes. Education will get its due importance. Every country men will get a job of his choice. Students will be devoted to their studies. Politicians will not be allowed to misuse students.

India must be a very strong country in the world. We have to protect our hard earned freedom. The defences of the country will be very strong. India is a peace-loving country. But it will have to be ready for war if it trust on us. The India of my dream will follow the policy of truth and non-violence. We have peace only when we are very strong. Our country will like to have friendly relations with its neighbours. The India of my dream will be a mighty country on all fronts.

Today, we find a big gap between the rich and the poor. There is corruption on all walks of life. The India of my dream will have social justice. The gap between the poor and the rich will be narrowed down. Everybody will get equal opportunity to be at this best self. There will be discipline, peace and progress all around. Nationalism will overcome the feelings of casteism and regionalism. There will be an atmosphere of equality brotherhood and freedom all over the country. The India of my dream will bring heaven on the earth. There will be Ram Rajya in true sense of the term. May God fulfil my dream.

10) As a responsible citizen you had to start a campaign on 'Say No to Polythene Bags in your locality. Write a report for your school magazine.

Ans: 15 Feb., 2022, The Manav Seva Samiti of Ashok Chandra organised a campaign (from the 9th to the 14th of this month) to create awareness about the hazards of Polythene bags.The cmpaign was named 'Say No topolythene Bags'. Banners bearing this slogan were isplayed in various places in thelocality. Members of the Samiti divided themselves into grous of four. Each group visited the people in their homes. People were told that Polythene was not biodegradable. These bags could choke the sewere. They could also spoil the fertility of the soil. Shop- keepers in the locality great interest in the campaign. Many of them promised never to use Polythene bags in future. The campaign was a great success. Everyone in the locality praised the Samiti members for their good work.

Answer any five of the following in about 50 words. 3x5=15

11) Why did Tao Ying change her intention to buy another ticket?

Ans: Tao Ying was sure that her son was one centimeter short of requiring an entry ticket. Few days back, the bus conductor had confirmed this fact. The ticket episode at the temple gate had tarnished her image of a perfect mother in front of her son. For a while she thought of buying another ticket for her son. But she changed her intention. If she buys another ticket now, she would never be able to explain her son that she was right.

12) Were the old lady's scales a reliable measure of height and weight? What convoluted logic were her measurements based on?

Ans: Tao Ying's son went to the old lady behind the ice-cream stall and got himself measured. Here also his height was one meter eleven cntimeters. Tao Ying could not believe it. She asked the old lady about the reason behind wrong measurement. The old lady told her that she had adjusted her scale to make people happy. Everyone wants to be tall. That is why she had adjusted the scale to make people seem taller.

13) What is the conflict in the poet's conscience in the poem 'Blood"?

Ans: The conflict in the poet's conscience comprises dissolution of joint and nuclear families, displacement of people from their house and hearth, from their roots (i.e., adoption of western culture), division of society is rich and poor classes, discrimination, stereotypes, inequality, selfishness, a cold death of emotional build-up and environment do severe unemployment in the country.

14) Why is the act of nature described as "precise in Time and Time Again"?

Ans: The term precise is meant by clear and accurate viz. Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). It's International Standard time referred to here as the time fixed in Switzerland. Nature in itself is all equal for all. Herein, nature's precise act or the reality of the going beaters (viz) the religion heads or missionaries) is seen when inner-conflict or introspection or back street quarrel takes place in the consciousness of the masses. Nature is taken herein as self-realisation or a wisdom that understands the things scientific or rational way when fanaticism or any other types of curtains are gone or clock work is knocked out. Only then, the followers of different religions are fully understood the exclusive and wholesome--not in fractions the precise nature of religion. It's the ultimate mission of human life.

Conclusion : It's precise act of nature because it tells that the defective clock work is unnatural and manipulated while LST or GMT is exclusive.

15) What is the contrast between the liveliness of the swans and human life?

Ans: Contrast between the livelines of the swans and human life: It is stated as follows-

(1) Swans are able to swim on streams, tread on surface as also fly in the air but human life is passed on treading the terrestrial path/highways/lanes etc.

(ii) They are able to sip the milk and leave the water out in the vessel/pot. Human life mostly passes in caverns of passions and slavery to their physical ease and comforts.

(iii) Swans are free from the mind of passion and an urge to conquer viz. ego while human life is passed possionate and an urge of possession clouds its discretion. In brief, swans live like an ascetic (viz. me living) while human beings live as man alive (viz. merely a mammal).

16) How would you explain the image of the 'Hindered Flags"!

Ans: Generally, flowers are folded within the flag before it is unfurled in special national festivals and funtions as well. In thesame imagery, the learned poetess tells that the virtues or vices as per positive or negative bent of disposition formed/acquired by adolescents during their infancy and teenage attain to the stage of manifestation. It happens when transition period is over. Bright flowers or adolescents who have duly met to self-realisation, start revealing their qualities through noble-deeds while the dull ones are involved in committing crimes and offences.

17) What is the simple truth that cludes the philosopher or the scientist?

Ans: The simple truth that eludes a philosopher has been started his talking about almighty and supreme soul (Atman). As concious of these two is invisible and generally, transcendent and utopia like assumptions. They emphasis on Nirvana or life after death and never when human body with living soul is here. Philosophers say the manis mortal with age countable in finger-tips. According to them, man's passions, urges, desires and aspirations become cause for reward or punishment after his death. They imagine hell and heaven, the two institutions where man goes as per his acts while on earth. The author tells their assumptions as tremulation or simple truth. He understands hell and heaven both existing here in the blue planet. He ridicules philosophers saying that their throughts as pygmy as a rabbit's pill.

Simple truth of a scientist is believing in physical things, lifeless or deadin themselves. He puts at stake, his conscious taking dead thinkgs as if they are living-one or alive. He dissects the living animals in order to find life in pieces i.e. how the liver, kidney, heart, lungs are in their respective functions. The author says that me living is a whole with all systems, organs, organelle, including cells. These have no meaning separately because man alive is greater than his soul.

Group-A

Answer any one of the following questions in not more than 100 words, 5x1-5

18) How did Margayya try to give his son the best education?

Ans: When a book named Domestic Hormony was published, Margayya's days changed entirely. He became rich. In the meantime Bala has become six years old. Margayya was very keen about the education of his son. He wanted his son to excel in every field after completing his education. So he took him to the Town's Elementary School and admitted him there. Margayya made it a grand show. He took the young boy in a decorated motor car with pipes and drums through the Market Road; Margayya walked in front of the car. He had also invited a few citizens on the road to go up with him as well.

Next day they celebrate schooling ceremony and as such the family of his brother too graced the occasion.

Within fifteen days of the schooling ceremony of his son, Margayya hears reports that Balu is being canned almost every day. At the end of the term Balu returns home with his progress card marked zero. Margayya decides to take charge of the school and becomes its secretary.

Now Balu has a special standing in the school, for Margayya is School's Secretary. Teachers salute before him while he passes beside them. But when the boy does not study well they have to cane him. Although, Margayya gets angry, he never interferes in their work as he wants his son to get higher education. He wants that he should go to America or Europe to take up higher education. He provided all the facilities to the boy for studying. He provides him a separate room as well as tutors for study. He even puts on a framed picture of Goddess Saraswati in his study room. He even advises Balu's teacher to thrash the boy if he does not study well. Hence he makes every possible effort to get the boy good education but Balu could only reach upto matriculation somehow or the other. He fails to pass the S.S.L.C. examination. Thus, all efforts of Margayya to educate his son were in smoke.

19) How does Margayya become rich?

Ans: The Financial Expert' is the story of the rise and fall of Margayya. It is his obsession with money that takes him to the pinnacle of wealth and ultimately bringe his downfall. The story of his rise and is in five phases.

In the firs phase, Margayya acts as the financial adviser to the peasants. He transacts his business under a banyan tree in front of the Malgudi Central Co-operative Mortgage Bank. There is always a semi-circle of peasants sitting round him, and by their attitude and expression one might easily guess that they are suppliants. Margayya is to them a wizard who enables to draw unlimited loans from the co-operative Bank.

In the second phase, Margayya becomes the prosperous published of the book ‘Domestic Harmony' in collaboration with the printer, Mr. Lai. But he hates this business. He goes to the priest, shows him his horoscope and tells him to worship Lakshmi, the Goddess of Wealth for forty days. Margayya goes to the pond of the red lotuses. He meets Dr. Pal, a journalist, correspondent and author. His book ‘Bed Life' is printed in the press of Madan Lal on a fifty-partnership basis. He earns a lot of money through the sales of the book and within a short period he becomes well- known for his riches.

In the third phase, Margayya becomes 'Financial adviser and money lender to the peasants, With his own offices in Market Road. This he does after selling his copyright of the Domestic Harmony to Madan Lai.

In the fourth phase, Margayya becomes the financial wizard who receives deposite and pays fabulous rates of interests with the help of Dr. Pal. He becomes a very rich and influential citizen of Malgudi. His son Balu is married with the daughter of a rich tea-estate owner and bribes the pandit to match the horoscope to the rich man's daughter Brinda. At that Dr. Pal gets undisturbed opportunity to spoil Balu more and more.

In the fifth phase, we come across the 'insolvent' Margayya. As a result of his quarrel with Dr. Pal, Margayya loses everything. Dr. Pal is beaten and insulted by Margayya in the presence of Balu and actresses. Dr. Pal takes revenge. He not only files an F.I.R. against him but also spreads rumour that Margayya's financial position is weak. People come.to Margayya to have their money withdrawn. Margayya declares himself an insolvent. He returns to where he had started.

Group-B

Answer any one of the following questions in not more than 100 words, 5x1=5

20) 'A Tiger for Malgudi is the story of the friendship between a tiger and a hermit Claborate

Ans: Raja and the Master travel throughout India spreading a philosophy of non-violence. They travel into the mountains and live for a while in a cave. Raja becomes an old tiger. He finds it more difficult to hunt and protect himself. To help his friend along, the master invites a zookeeper to take care of Raja and proves to be riendly and compassionate. The master gives Raja a final assignment to move into the zoo and make children happy. Now, two old friends, Raja and the Master part ways. The master tells him that their spirits will meet again, when their bodies are no longer necessary.

21) Describe the comic vision of R.K.Narayan in ‘A Tiger for Malgudi'

Ans: 'A Tiger for Malgudi' is a inveting tale of the human-animal relationship, psychology, human greed, lust, the fame that too with spinitual guidance. It is about a tiger possessed of the soul of an enlightened human being who tell us the story of his life. It combines the elusive timeless quality of Hindu legend with the comic vision of Narayan's humour of close and realistic observation of life, precise juxtaposition of incongruites, deflation of illusion and above all sympathy rather than harsh satire.
