2. An Elementary School Classroom in a Slum Textbook Questions and Answers Summary
of the Poems : The
poet presents a pathetic picture of a classroom in a slum-school. The slum is
far away from the sea-shore and the natural surrounding. Children living in
slums are underfed, underdeveloped and untouched by the civilized world. The
maps of the world and pictures of great persons on the walls of the classroom
are meaningless to these children. For
them, the narrow lanes outside the classroom windows, the dusty sky and the
heaps of rubbish are their world. The poet urges the educated and civilized
people of the society to break all the barriers and lead them to green fields
and pastures of knowledge to make them a part of the civilized world. People
who are possessed with the warmth and power of the sun can make history. कविता
