Read the passage given below:
Alexander, the son of King Philip, was the ruler of Macedonia in
Greece. In the course of his victories abroad, he thought of conquering India.
At the head of a large army, he crossed the river Indus at Ohind in 327 B.C.
After conquering some small kingdoms in the North-West, he confronted Porus who
was the ruler in one of the states in Punjab. In the battle of Hydaspes
(Jhelum) Porus was defeated, Alexander advanced up to Beas when his forces
refused to go further. On his way back, he died at Babylon in 323 B.C.
The Greek authority in north-west India vanished soon after
Alexander's death, but the episode had important consequences. It gave strength
to the movement for political unification of India under a strong central
government. It also marked the beginning of continuous contacts between the two
ancient civilizations of India and Greece

Through
the columns of your esteemed newspaper. I would like to draw the attention to
one of the gravest situations these days, the living conditions in slums. The
living conditions of the slum areas in metropolition. Migration, from villages
to cities, can be one of the major causes for this grievance.
Owing
to the fact that our village are running out of job opportunities. Village
people are complicated compelled to migrate tothe cities. But our 'cities' are
incapable of giving shelter as well as foof to those many migrants. The lack of
space, water, food and job gave rise to slum areas.
I
want to utilise this space to request our Government to take positive steps to
improve concerned authorities will look into this matter. Their efforts would
be highly appreciated.

Last week a yoga awareness programme was organized in your school. Write a

January, 2022 : Last week, a yoga awareness programme was organized in our
school. Famous personalities belonging to the world of 'Yoga'and physical
fitness were invited. Swami Ram Dev of Haridwar inaugurate the programme. He
physically demonstrated many 'asanas' and physical exercises to keep a strong
and healthy body, Swami laid great stress on pranayam' or 'the art of
breathing'. Deep breathing is the essence of pranayam'. The workshop was a
grand success. It attracted people from all walks of life: Young people,
particularly students of the city, attended the yoga awareness programme in
large numbers. Exercise session was the most significant programme of the
workshop. A number of yoga experts helped people to perform exercises in a
proper way. In the concluding speech our principal thanked the guests and
expressed his satisfaction at the successful conclusion of the programme.

the sun, the moon, tree old and new,daffodil flowers, small streams with clear
water, flower brakes, and the blloming musk rose are things of beauty. They are
permanent source of joy and pleasure.
12. What was the plea of the folk who had put up the roadside
stand?
Ans:
The men folk who had put up the roadside stand pleaded earnestly and
pathetically for some customers to come so that they could earn money from
them. They desired that the city people passing through the countryside would
stop there to buy something from them. With this very objective they had set up
the roadside stand. But they failed to attract customers.
13. Who was Edla? What doubts did she have about the peddler?

Elda was oldman's daughter.
When
Elda noticed that the peddler was afraild, she began to doubt about the
peddler. She thought either the man had stolen something or else he had encaped
from jail. She, in fact, was right in her judgement.
14. Who was Raj Kumar Shukla? Why is he described as being

a poor and illiterate peasant Rajkumar Sukla "resolute'. He goes to the
Congress session, single-harded to complain about the injustice of the landlord
system in Bihar. When somebody asked him to speak to Gandhi, he followed him
wherever Gandhi went till he achieved his sim. He followed Gandhiji to Cawnpore
(Kanpur), to Ahmedabad, to Clcutta (Kokata), then to Patna from the
Muzaffarpur. So, Rajkumar Shukla has rightly been described as being 'resolute.
15. Sophic and Jansie were class- mates and friends. What were
the differences between them that show up in the story?
Ans:
Sophie and Jansie were classmates and friends, still there were some stark
(clear) differences between them that show up in the story. Sophie wanted to go
to have a boutique. Jansie was doubtful about her plan because that required
money which Sophie didn't have. Jansie told her it would take her a long time
to save tha much. Sophie said that she would be a manager then. Jansie retorted
that they wouldn't make her manager straight off. Sophie dreamed to be an
acterss or a fashion designer. Sophie was dreaming to meet Danny Casey. Jansie
had no such fancies.nWhen Jansie told Sophie that the latter met Danny Casey.
Jasnie had no such fancies. When Jansie told Sophie that the latter met Danny
Casey, she got alarmed. Sophie suspected Geoff. She said that was a Geoff thing
not a Jansie thing. In fact, shrewed Jansie had sensed that Sophie was in love
with Danny Casey. When Geoff assured Sophe that he didn't tell anything to
Jansie she (Sophie) breathed more easily

Ans:
Annan was Bama's alder brother. He advised Bama to study with care and learn
all that she could. If she was always ahead in her lessons, people would come
to her of other own accord and attach themselves to her.
17. What was Roger Skunk's problem? How was he treated by the
other woodland creatures?
Ans:
Roger Skunk's main problem was that he smmelled very bad. No animal came close
to him, love him and play with him. They teased himcalling 'Stinky Skunk'. The
poor little Roger was segregated. he would stand alone and weep. he told his
sad story to wizard, who took pity on him and made him smell like roses. Now
little animals started gathering around him because he smelled so good. They
loved him and played with him.
When
Roger's mommy found him smell like roses, she got annoyed. She went to that
‘awful wizard' and hit him over the head with her umbrella. He made Skunk smell
very bad again. Roger Skunk's mommy was not 'stupid' as Jo would thinkher to
be. For her, her Roger was always a creature of love and affection.
For
her the Roger's smell is the smell she loves and cherishes. In fact, she was
upset and angry when she found Skunk smelling like roses. So she went to wizard
to make Roger smell very bad atain. When he again begins to smell had she loved
him and hugged him.

18. In the story "The Rattrap" what made the peddler
finally change his ways?
Ans:
'Goodness begets goodness' is an old maxim. The love, sympathy, fellow-feeling
and kindness shown by teh ironmaster's daughter to the rat-trap peddler changed
his heart and ways. Even afer getting suspicious about the man that he might be
a thief or a fugitive, she showed sympathy towards him, brought him home and
entertained him. Even when her father wanted him to leave their home, she
interceded with her father on his behalf and didn't allow him to leave their
house. She entertained him with Christmas fair, gave him a fur coat as a
Christmas gift. Asked him to come every year to share the Christmas fair on the
Christmas Eve. She said. "He (the peddler) walks and walks the whole year
long, and there is probably not a single place in the whole country where he is
welcome and can feel at home. Wherever be turns he is chases away. Always he is
afraid of being arrested and cross-examined. I should like to have him enjoy a
day of peace with us here-just one in the whole year.” Thus, we see that her
all out goodness and sympathy for the astrayed man transformed him from a thief
and criminal to an honest and good-natured man. As a result, be confessed his
crime, returned the theft money and showed his high regard to the ironmaster's
daughter.
19. What activities did Bama witness on her way back from
school?
Ans:
When Bama was in third standard. One day on her way back from school she saw an
eldery man carrying a small pocket that contained soem eatables, he hold the
packet by its strings without touching it and extended it to the landlord. Who
opened it and began to eat. She thought it was something funny but Annan, told
her that the man was from a low caste because of which he couldn't touch the
food packet.
