Part-B (Subjective Type)
Section - A (Very short answer type questions)
Answer
any six questions. 2 x 6 = 12
(Q.
Nos. 31-38) Read the passage carefully and answer any six questions:
STUDIES
serve for delight, for ornament, and for ability. Their chief use for delight
is in privateness and retiring; for ornament, is in discourse; and for ability,
is in the judgement and disposition of business; for expert men can execute, and
perhaps judge of particulars, one by one; but the general counsels, and the
plots and marshalling of affairs come best from those that are learned. To
spend too much times in studies is sloth; to use them too much for ornament is
affectation; to make judgement wholly by their rules is the humour of a
scholar. They perfect nature, and a perfected by experience. Crafty men contemn
studies, simple men admire them, and wise men use them: for they teach not
their own use; but that is a wisdom without them and above them, won by
observation.
31. What is the main purpose of study?
Ans.
The main purpose of study is for delight, for ornament, and for ability.
32. What is the main use of study as an ornament?
Ans.
The main use of study as an ornament is in discourse (conversation).
33. What marks the humour of a scholar?
Ans.
To make judgement wholly by the rules of studies marks the humour of a scholar.
34. What can expert men do about studies?
Ans.
Expert men can execute and judge particulars one by one, but general counsels
and planning come best from learned men.
35. Write similar words from the passage for the following:
a) Happiness – Delight
b) Rest – Retiring
36. What is the passage all about?
Ans.
The passage is about the importance, uses, and proper role of studies in life.
37. Studies are contemned by whom?
Ans.
Studies are contemned by crafty men.
38. Write the antonym of 'notice' from the passage.
Ans.
The antonym of 'notice' from the passage is Contemn.
Section - В (Short answer type questions)
Answer
any six questions. Answer the questions in maximum 150 words cach. 3x6-18
39. Who was the Crofter? Why did he welcome the peddler so
heartily?
Ans.
The Crofter was a poor old man who lived alone in a small roadside cottage. He
had no family and earned his living by selling the milk of his cow.
The
Crofter welcomed the peddler warmly because:
- He was lonely and
happy to get company.
- He was kind and
hospitable by nature.
- He felt proud to
show his cow and share his simple prosperity.
- He offered the peddler
food, tobacco, and shelter for the night out of generosity and trust.
40. Who was J. B. Kripalani? How did he help Gandhiji ?
Ans.
J. B. Kripalani was a prominent Indian freedom fighter, Gandhian leader, and
later President of the Indian National Congress. He was a close associate and
follower of Mahatma Gandhi.
He
met Gandhiji at Muzaffarpur when Gandhi came to inquire into the problems of
indigo farmers in Champaran.
Kripalani
received him warmly and arranged his stay. He introduced Gandhiji to local
lawyers, teachers, and supporters. He helped in organising meetings and
gathering information about the peasants’ grievances. His assistance made it
easier for Gandhi to begin his work, which led to the success of the Champaran
Satyagraha.
41. What is the difference between the thinking of Mr. Lamb and
Derry?
Ans.
Mr. Lamb is optimistic, open-minded, and embraces life, using his experiences
to find beauty in everything. Conversely, teenage Derry is pessimistic,
withdrawn, and bitter, burdened by insecurity and societal rejection regarding
his disfigured face.
Differences
in Thinking:
•Attitude
Toward Disability: Mr. Lamb, who has a tin leg, has accepted his impairment and
does not let it define his life. Derry, scarred by acid, is consumed by
self-pity, fear, and resentment, viewing his face as a permanent barrier to
acceptance.
•Perspective
on Life and People: Mr. Lamb believes in social connection, keeping his door
open for others, and finds joy in simple things. Derry is cynical, avoids
people, and believes no one can truly love or accept him.
•Reaction
to Adversity: When mocked, Mr. Lamb remains unbothered, while Derry is highly
sensitive to what others say and focuses heavily on negative experiences.
•Outlook:
Mr. Lamb represents resilience and hope, whereas Derry initially embodies
despair and social withdrawal.
42. Who is Sophie ? What things does she dream of becoming?
Ans.
Sophie is a teenage schoolgirl from a lower middle-class family. She lives in a
modest home, her father works hard, and her family has limited means. Despite
this, Sophie is very imaginative and dreamy. She dislikes the idea of living an
ordinary working-class life.
Sophie
dreams of achieving a glamorous and successful future. She imagines herself
becoming:
- A boutique owner –
running her own fashion shop.
- A fashion designer –
creating stylish clothes.
- An actress –
becoming famous and admired.
- A manager /
businesswoman – earning lots of money and living a luxurious life.
She
also fantasizes about meeting the football star Danny Casey, and even convinces
herself that he spoke to her, showing how deeply she lives in her dreams rather
than reality.
43. What do the people of Roadside stand want from the city
dwellers?
Ans.
The poor villagers who run the roadside stand want money and fair opportunities
from the city people. They hope that city dwellers will:
- Stop and buy their
goods
- Help them earn a
better income
- Improve their
standard of living
- Bring some
prosperity and happiness into their lives
They
do not ask for charity; they simply want city people to purchase their products
so that they can live with dignity and escape poverty.
44. What are the things of beauty that help us during dark times?
Ans.
According to John Keats, things of beauty help us during dark times by giving
us hope, joy, and emotional strength. Human life is full of sorrow, suffering,
disappointments, and gloomy days. In such moments, beautiful things act like a
soothing balm for the troubled mind. Natural beauties such as the sun, moon,
trees, daffodils, and clear streams refresh our spirits. The beauty of noble
people, inspiring legends, and heroic deeds also uplifts our thoughts. These
beautiful things create a “bower quiet” — a peaceful shelter — that protects us
from despair and negativity. They remove sadness and fill our hearts with
optimism. Their loveliness never fades; instead, it grows and continues to
inspire us. Thus, things of beauty provide comfort, mental peace, and the
strength to endure hardships, helping us survive the darkness of life with
renewed faith and happiness.
45. Who was Roger Skunk ? What was his main problem?
Ans.
Roger’s main problem was his foul smell. Like all skunks, he gave off a very
bad odor. Because of this, the other animals avoided him. They would not play
with him and often ran away whenever he came near. This made Roger feel lonely,
hurt, and rejected. He wanted friends and wished to be accepted like the other
animals.
To
solve his problem, Roger went to the wizard, who changed his smell to that of
roses. Now the animals happily played with him. However, his mother disliked
the change and got the wizard to restore Roger’s original skunk smell, teaching
him to accept his natural identity.
Thus,
Roger Skunk’s main problem was social rejection caused by his unpleasant
natural smell.
46. How did Derry's life change after meeting Mr. Lamb?
Ans.
When she met Mr. Lamb in his garden, it proved to be a turning point in her
life. Mr. Lamb, also physically disabled, had lost a leg in a war bombing many
years earlier. Meeting him in the garden proved to be a lifesaver for Derry.
Lamb told Derry many things that changed his outlook on life, such as: He
shouldn't care about people's comments on his burned face. Everything is the
same and yet different. He should be interested in everything God created. He
should socialize. He shouldn't lock himself in a room. He shouldn't hate
anyone.
He
shouldn't care what his mother says. He has a tongue, a mind, hands, and feet.
In fact, Mr. Lamb teaches Derry the right way to live life with his unique
questions and inspiring answers. This has a magical effect on Derry. Despite
his mother's refusal, he goes to Lamb. Lamb serves as a guide for Derry through
his life. Like Lamb, Derry also changes. Derry learns a new lesson in life from
Mr. Lamb.

Subject:
Need for Upliftment of Health Facilities in Ranchi
Sir/Madam,
Through the columns of your esteemed
newspaper, I would like to draw the attention of the concerned authorities
towards the urgent need to improve the health facilities in our city, Ranchi,
in the wake of the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The
pandemic exposed the glaring weaknesses of our healthcare system. Government
hospitals were overcrowded, beds were insufficient, and there was an acute
shortage of oxygen cylinders, ventilators, and essential medicines. Patients
had to run from one hospital to another in search of treatment. Moreover, the
number of qualified doctors, nurses, and paramedical staff proved inadequate
for handling such emergencies.
Rural
and semi-urban areas connected to the city suffered even more due to the lack
of primary health centres, testing labs, and ambulance services. Many people
lost their lives not only because of the virus but also due to delayed medical
care.
It
is, therefore, imperative that immediate steps be taken to strengthen our
health infrastructure. The government should increase hospital capacity, ensure
regular supply of life-saving equipment, upgrade testing laboratories, and
establish well-equipped emergency wards. Recruitment of trained medical staff
and investment in telemedicine and mobile health units would also help in
managing future crises effectively.
I
hope the authorities will take this matter seriously and initiate prompt action
to safeguard public health.
Thanking
you.
Yours
sincerely,
Sunita

Date:
10 February 2026: A First Aid Training Program was organised in our school
under the guidance of the Red Cross Society to equip students with essential
life-saving skills. The training was arranged for selected student volunteers
who are members of the school’s Red Cross unit.
The
program was conducted by certified medical professionals and Red Cross
trainers. It began with a theoretical session where students were introduced to
the importance of first aid, basic emergency response, and the role of quick
action in saving lives.
During
the practical sessions, we were trained in handling common emergencies such as
cuts, burns, fractures, nosebleeds, and fainting. We also learned how to
perform CPR (Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation) and the correct method of
bandaging and dressing wounds. Demonstrations were followed by hands-on
practice, which made the learning experience highly effective.
The
trainers emphasized the importance of staying calm, assessing the situation,
and seeking medical help promptly. They also shared safety tips for accidents
at home, school, and on the road.
The
training proved extremely informative and empowering. It has prepared us to
respond confidently in emergencies and reinforced the value of service to
society.

51. Every teenager has a dream to achieve something in life.
What they are going to become tomorrow depends on what our youth dream today.
Write an article on what "I want to be in life". You are
Simranjit/Smita.
Ans.
What
I Want to Be in Life
By
Simranjit
Every
teenager nurtures dreams about the future. These dreams give direction to our
efforts and shape the course of our lives. I, too, dream of becoming someone
who can make a meaningful difference in society. What I want to be in life is
not merely about earning money or achieving fame, but about living a life of
purpose and service.
I
aspire to become a doctor. The medical profession, to me, is one of the noblest
callings. Doctors are lifesavers who work tirelessly to reduce human suffering.
The sight of people struggling due to lack of proper healthcare, especially in
rural and underprivileged areas, has deeply influenced my ambition.
To
achieve this goal, I know I must work with dedication, discipline, and
perseverance. Excelling in academics, particularly in Biology and Chemistry, is
essential. Apart from studies, I wish to develop qualities like compassion,
patience, and emotional strength—traits that define a good doctor.
My
dream is not limited to personal success. I want to serve society by providing affordable
treatment to the poor and by participating in health awareness campaigns. I
believe true success lies in touching lives and bringing hope where there is
despair.
In
conclusion, my aim in life gives me motivation to work hard and stay focused. With
determination and sincere effort, I hope to turn my dream into reality and
become a responsible citizen who contributes positively to the world.

Dear
Rahul,
I
hope this letter finds you in the best of health and spirits. I am very excited
to share with you that our school is organising a **Blood Donation Camp** next
week as part of our social service initiative. Being the Youth Secretary of the
school, I am actively involved in planning and organising this noble event.
The
camp is being conducted in collaboration with the local Red Cross Society and a
team of qualified doctors. Its main aim is to encourage people to donate blood
and help save precious human lives. As you know, blood cannot be manufactured
artificially, and many patients depend entirely on donors in times of
emergency.
We
have been spreading awareness among students, parents, and residents of nearby
areas about the importance of blood donation. Posters, announcements, and
counselling sessions are being organised to motivate voluntary donors. Proper
medical facilities and safety measures are being ensured during the camp.
It
gives me immense pride to be part of such social work for mankind. Helping
someone live a second life is perhaps the greatest service one can render to
society. I wish you could be here to participate in this noble cause.
Convey
my regards to Uncle and Aunty. Hoping to hear from you soon.
Yours
lovingly,
Sagar
