Read the following
passage and answer any six questions from No. 31to 38. (2x6=12)
Dexter
was a military general in Hitler's army. During the Second World War, he was
appointed as the Guard of a Fortress near the French border. He moved on his
mission leaving his wife behind who was to be the hostage if Dexter failed in
his duty. After the continuous attack of the Allied army, only ten thousand
German soldiers were left without any ammunition in the most miserable condition
with all the injuries but no medicines and no treatment. All round the clock,
the Allied Army announced their support after the surrender but there was
Hitler who wanted everyone to die in the battlefield.
Dexter
was having all confusion of thinking of his wife. In between he received a
letter from his wife who would die of cancer by the time Dexter would be going
through the contents. There was now nothing to be afraid of or to care for.
Dexter killed his immediate boss and on radio announced the surrender. Now the
ten thousand soldiers were being looked after by the doctors of the Allied army
and could get the chance to survive and to live on.

had been obsessively waiting for his son's return. This story explores the
themes of hope, obsession and the passage of time. Captain Hagberd believes
that Harry will come back tomorrow. Thus the title of the story is apt and
justified.

47. Draw a character sketch of Frau Frieda.

Frau Frieda is the central
character of the story 'I Sell My Dreams'. She is mysterious. She claims to
have the ability to foretell the future through dreams. She makes her fortune
by predicting the future of a wealthy Viennese family. She is not pretty but a
charming human being. She wears a serpent-shaped Egyptian ring on her right
forefinger. At the age of seven, she predicts that her five-years old brother
would die of being carried off by flood. She told her mother to stop him from
eating sweets. But he eats a piece of caramel in secret and dies by choking.
Frau Frieda travels a lot and explores new places.
48. Margayya is the cause of his ruin. Explain.
Ans-
R.K Narayan is one of the
greatest of the Indian writers who wrote in English. His 'The Financial Expert'
is a novel which has touched the heart of his readers. Margayya is the central
character of the novel. He starts his life from under a banyan tree near the
Central Co-operative Land Mortgage Bank in Malgudi. But the Secretary orders
him to leave that place. He meets Dr. Pal. Dr. Par gives him the manuscript of
a book'Bed Life'. Margayya publishes it with the help of MadanLal and earns a
lot of money. Margayya then starts banking business. Dr. Pal helps him
gathering investors. He earns a lot of money by banking business. But one day,
Margayya slaps Dr. Pal for spoiling his son Balu. Dr. Pal spreads the news that
Margayya has lost all his money. All the customers come to get back their
money. Margayya declares himself bankrupt. Thus we can say that Margayya
himself is the cause of his ruin.
49. Write an essay on 'Use of Internet'.

This is the age of science and technology. We cannot
think of ourselves without internet in today's world. Internet plays the most
important role in our modern life. With the use of internet, we can share
information with just one click-through emails, fax and various other mediums.
We can easily send money to the shopkeeper, the educational institutions and
anywhere else with the help of internet. We can connect ourselves through video
conferences and messages with each other. With the help of internet, students
can study for exams, participate in extra-curricular activities and so on.
Internet has brought effective changes in the field of healthcare also. We can
easily connect with our doctors sitting miles away in Chennai or in Bangalore
for checkup. Internet helps us make friendship with the people from all over
the world through Facebook, WhatsApp and so on. But internet can be addictive
also. It can lead children in the wrong direction if not used properly. But
modern day cannot be thought of without internet.

Yesterday Teachers' Day was celebrated with great
enthusiasm and happiness at +2 School Amrapara. The Chief guest of the
programme was the respected B.D.O. of Amapara. The programme was held at the
auditorium hall. The Principal of the school ShriChandan Kumar presided over
the programme. He put a garland on the photograph of Dr.
SarvepalliRadhakrishnan to pay him homage. Respected B.D.O. Sir delivered a
valuable speech on the importance of the day. The Principal Sir also delivered
a beautiful speech. The Students of class X and xii performed various cultural
activities like dance, songs, speeches. A drama was enacted by the students of
Class X. The students also arranged some fun games for the teachers to
entertain them. All the teachers and the guardians appreciated the programme.
The programme ended with the thanks giving ceremony by John Sir, the English
teacher of the School. Sweets were distributed to all the students and
guardians present there.
51. Draw a character sketch of Prakriti.
Ans-
Prakriti is the central character
of the play 'Chandalika' written by Rabindranath Tagore. Tagore highlights
casteism in this play. Prakriti is a Chandal girl who belongs to the lowest
caste of the society. Nobody touches her. But Ananda, the Buddhist monk drinks
water from Prakriti in a hot Vaishakh day. Prakriti feels that she has got a
new life. She compels her mother to spread magic spell on Ananda and bring him
back to her. Ananda saves her from the burnt of societal disdain and oppression
due to her low social status. As Ananda has given her a new life and
self-realisation, she wants him by her side all the time.
ButPrakriti is an unfortunate girl. She loses her
mother at the end. Due to the exhaustion of spreading black magic on Ananda,
Prakriti's mother breathes her last. Ananda comes but Prakriti cannot keep him.
Thus she becomes a tragic character in the play.
52. Differentiate between Slavery of man to man and Slavery of
man to nature.
Ans-
G.B. Shaw is a famous writer.
His essay 'Freedom' puts light on the issue of slavery. He keeps slavery into
two categories. The first one is Slavery of man to Nature. Nobody in the world
can avoid it. Even the emperors with hundreds of slaves cannot avoid this
slavery. One has to eat, drink and sleep himself/herself. But nature has made drinking,
sleeping and eating a nice thing. If one sleeps, he/she feels rejuvenated.
On the other hand, Slavery of man to man is completely different. There is no pleasant feeling in doing so, Man with great power and financial might can keep servants and let them do their tasks for money. It can be avoided. But Slavery of Man to Nature is unavoidable.
